He’ll deal with heat

- ■ James Cairns

Frank Lampard insists Steven Gerrard is tough and hard enough to deal with the pressures of the Rangers job – without any words of support from himself.

Gerrard is feeling the heat at Ibrox for the first time in two seasons, with hopes of stopping Celtic romping to a ninth straight title all but dead.

Chelsea boss Lampard said: “We all have the same pressures, however it might look from the outside.

“So, I’m not talking about ‘sympathy’ because we’re both tough. I know Steven and he’s a hard lad. I mean that in a good way.

“I don’t want sympathy and I’m not going to hand sympathy or lessons or talks to Steven.”

Lampard says those who claim he and Gerrard get favourable treatment are talking rubbish.

He said: “People say we get an easy ride because we are ex-players, are spoken about a lot, and are English. I don’t agree.”
