“Then my mum came in. She kept prodding me and waking me up and told me it was time to really start fighting. “Her words were so powerful. They were like a wake-up call. I thought I’d been fighting before but I knew if she was worried then I had to fight harder. Her sixth sense was working again.” While Eilidh continues to receive hormone therapy and at tends hospital every three months, she was delighted to be told six months after diagnosis that she was cancer free. Throughout her journey, she received support from the charity Breast Cancer Care, which has since joined forces with Breast Cancer Now. She made use of their booklets and Someone Like Me service, where she could speak to a woman who had received a very similar diagnosis to her own.

Last October, she was one of 24 women who had been chosen to appear as models in the Breast Cancer Care Scotland Fashion Show. Both Eilidh and her mum want to encourage other women – and men – who have been touched by breast cancer to apply to take part in this year’s event, rebranded as the Breast Cancer Now Scotland Fashion Show.

Eilidh, who opened last year’s event by sharing the story of her cancer journey, said: “I applied to take part because I wanted to show people I was still standing despite being to hell and back.

“There were times when I was going through my treatment when it felt like recovery would never come and I would never feel strong again but I got through it and went up on that catwalk to show others that they can get through it too.” Anna said: “To see Eilidh go through breast cancer was very hard and there were days when she was so ill and could have just slipped away. She had to fight and I did everything I could to help her.

“It felt very emotional to see Eilidh on the catwalk but she looked amazing and I was so proud of her.” The pair will celebrate Mother’s Day with a lunch together and glass of fizz. Eilidh said: “Mum and I have always been close but I think these last two years have made us even closer. “Children tend to take their mothers – and their advice – for granted but I don’t any more.” nominate themselves or a pal, colleague or family member.

As well as a place in the show with all travel and accommodation covered, the winner will receive four free tickets and their favourite outfit modelled at the event. The person who nominates the winner will get a spa day for two.
