emergency and there has been much debate over how to conclude this season’s play if fixtures cannot be completed.

The SPFL, which houses the country’s top four leagues, is in turmoil as decision-makers ponder whether to void the season altogether, call it early or resume at a later date when it is safe to do so.

But the Highland League, which sees Brora leading by 13 points with si x of thei r f ixtures remaining, have decided against completing the league campaign.

It comes after a meeting on Friday at which clubs met to consider options during an unprecedented period for football.

And Powrie believes league reconstruction proposals that would see both Brora and the winners of the Lowland League being promoted, with no relegation from any of the SPFL’s four divisions, is now the most sensible way forward for the Scottish game.

Brora’s chief said: “It’s not the way we envisaged winning the league but there was clear blue water between us and the pack.

“It is firm management from the league. They have grasped the nettle for the good of everybody.

“I hope other leagues will follow suit.

“Our concern now is whether there will be any play-offs and I’d think that would be doubtful.

“I hope the SPFL will follow the Annan Athletic proposal which says there will be no relegation but that the Lowland League and the Highland League champions will move up to League Two.”

Player- boss Steven Mackay added: “We’ve won something big, but we feel pretty flat.

“We won’t have that moment when the final whistle sounds and the rush of emotions hit you.”
