I hope this cloud has a silver lining

Mikey Devlin is praying he gets the chance to help Aberdeen chase Scottish Cup glory this season.

But the Dons defender accepts that looks highly unlikely due to the shutdown and the time frame involved.

Devlin – also vice-chairman of PFA Scotland – says it’s important that a way to complete the season can be found with as little collateral damage as possible.

He told MailSport: “Every player and manager wants to see the season finished. If the season finishes now, we’d relinquish the grip in our own destiny and we want to finish third in the league. We also have an unbelievable opportunity to reach the Scottish Cup Final and go on to win it. So if we can, we’d like to finish it.

“But realistically I don’t see how we’re going to do it – despite a willingness from everyone involved. To take the season into June and July would bring added pressure on players with regards to their futures so it’s difficult.

“The first priority should be to finish the season but if we can’t it’s about finding a solution that upsets the least amount of people – because you can’t please everyone.”

Like every other player Devlin has been stuck indoors training on his own but he praised the Dons for keeping their schedule as normal as possible.

He said: “It’s difficult when your routine is taken away from you but the training programmes given to us by the club have given the players a structure.

“Other than that, it has just been about trying to keep busy around the house.”
