responsible for Marie’s death in 2015 when he returns to Glasgow’s Shettleston.

The 57-year-old died after getting into a taxi on her way home to Easterhouse following Martin’s marriage to Michelle.

Martin said he hopes a heartfelt apology would help him and Marie’s loved ones get some closure.

The 44-year-old, of Stewarton, Ayrshire, said: “Bennie still lives in Glasgow, near where I’m from. I also work close by there and there is the real possibility that I could come face-to-face with him.

“I’m struggling to get my head around how he’s serving time for killing my mum and in just a few weeks I could bump into him in the street.

“It ’ s been a really hard thing to think about since I heard he was being released.

“If I come face-to-facewith him, I don’t want to fight with him – I’m not that person and I know nothing will ever bring my mum back. But it really would help give me some sense of closure if he said, ‘I just want to say how really sorry I am for what happened.’

“I would then be able to look him in the eye and know if he really was sorry.

“I want to say to him, ‘Do you know what your actions caused? Do you know how you hurt us?’ It would finally give me some peace.”

Michelle, 40, an early learning childcare practitioner, added: “You like to think everyone has a conscience and I hope he feels remorse.

“I hope he carries it with him. I hope he knows the pain he has caused our family.”

Mum-of-two Marie and husband Jamie, 56, had left the wedding reception at the Lochside Hotel in Cumnock, Ayrshire, in a minibus. The couple were dropped off in Glasgow’s east end before hailing a taxi in the street to take them home.

Marie had just entered the taxi when the collision happened. Emergency services attended but she died at the scene.
