FASHION GURU’S CARTOON MONSTER OBSESSION

The designer, who lives in London, said: “I wawas always encouraged to draw.
“MMy mum would put pens and pencils in frofront of me and I’d just sit and draw all thesthese characters.
“I’d draw dinosaurs, I’d draw planets and lotsl of random stuff.
“I gotg really into Pokémon at one point, whicwhich was quite unhealthy. I can sort of sesee that permeates some of the work I do now.n
“I do all these sort of mad keyrings, which do quite well in Japan.J Sometimes I look at them and think, ‘ That looks quite similar to thet Pokémon I used to like’.
“I remember going to see the Pokémon P film in Wales when it first came c out and me and my friends all a clubbing together and my mum

taking us all. I remember getting so excited and I was almost shaking in the cinema watching this film.
“I’ve always been attracted to things likelikesuperheroesandwearingsomethingsuperheroesandwearingsomething that makes you have a power almost.”
Speaking on The Collector’s House podcast, Charles, who studied fashion at Central Saint Martins in London, added: “Sometimes when I watch David Attenborough, you see the animals and you can see the Pokémon and you’re like, ‘That Pokémon is inspired by that animal’. It’s fascinating.”
Charles has been praised by Vogue for bringing “theatre and performance back to fashion shows” and was named by leading website The Business of Fashion as one of the top 500 people in the world who are shaping the industry.

In the episode, which aired in May, assassin Villanelle, played by Jodie Comer, wore Charles’s chain trim coat and pleated skirt in a scene where she checks into a hotel on a trip to Scotland.
