Doohan in Stags face off

-

Ross County boss Stuart Ket t lewell la st night welcomed Celtic keeper Ross Doohan – and warned he faces a fight for the gloves.

Doohan yesterday sealed a one-year loan move to the Staggies where he wi l l compete with Ross Laidlaw and youngster Ross Munro for the No.1 spot.

The loan was finalised after the Hoops swooped for Greek international Vasilis Barkas in a £4.5million deal and Doohan had impressed in County’s goals during a friendly against his parent club last weekend.

The Scotland Under-21 cap previously spent two seasons with Ayr United where he kept 29 clean sheets in 80 appearances.

Kettlewell said: “We’re delighted to bring Ross into the fold.

“Celtic were great in giving us a chance to get Ross involved in our weekend game so he’s not coming in completely cold.

“He is ready to compete with the keepers we already have here – Laidlaw put down a marker last season.

“And Munro did well out on loan at Raith Rovers and also gets to pitch his hat into the ring.

“We will look to see how we can get the best out of all three of these guys, Doohan included.

“Each will get a chance to prove he is the best candidate for the position.

“We’ve watched Ross and he did exceptionally well at Ayr. He wants to make strides in his career and we can facilitate that.

“It is difficult for these young guys to break through at a club like Celtic, given the talent they have – and they’ve now spent millions on a new keeper. People need opportunities and we’re hopeful Ross can go from strength to strength here at Ross County.”
