Simple Minds stalker won’t forget about us

NURSE CALLS IN COPS OVER LATEST SLURS Victims say star’s brother is harassing them from jail

- Jennifer Hyland

A couple who were stalked by the brother of Simple Minds singer Jim Kerr have claimed he is continuing to harass them from prison.

John and Julie Fagan were subjected to a year-long campaign of terror by the star’s estranged brother Paul Kerr.

Jailed Kerr targeted them with sex lies after a row about the band.

Now nurse John, 52, has contacted police after letters in Kerr’s name were sent to his current and previous employers containing more false allegations about him.

He said: “Kerr has been trying to affect my employment from prison by writing multiple letters since he was jailed for stalking us.

“He first wrote to NHS England but they wondered who Paul Kerr and John Fagan were so they passed it to the Nursing & Midwifery Council, which regulates nurses and has the power to strike a nurse off the register.

“He claimed I admitted in court to downloading paedophile material while at work, which is nonsense. He also wrote that I had a conviction for molesting someone and was a thief, which is all completely untrue.

“NHS England had to take out a no- contact order to stop Kerr writing to them.

“I was also contacted by East Kent Hospitals, my former employer, as Kerr has written to them with malicious falsehoods about me.

“He just isn’t going to stop. He is still trying to ruin our lives from prison.”

Simple Minds superfan John’s ordeal began in January 2018 when he replied to a post on Kerr’s Facebook page about the band’s new album, Walk Between Worlds, being “pure s***”.

Kerr threatened to murder John and drag Julie by her hair.

The 56-year- old, who was once the Glasgow band ’ s tour manager, also falsely accused John of raping a nine-year- old boy and posted sexual ly abusive comments about him and his wife on Facebook.

The couple, who live in Canterbury, Kent, say Kerr doctored copies of their wedding photos and wrote posts saying Julie was promiscuous.

Last October, Kerr, of Brighton, went on trial at Lewes Crown Court and denied harassing the couple between January and November 2018. He was found guilty of two charges of stalking against the Fagans and a charge of stalking his ex- partner Elisabeth Vanthof.

He was given a nine-year sentence in January, with six years in custody and three on extended licence.

Earlier this month, we revealed Kerr went to the Court of Appeal in a bid to get a lighter sentence but his application was dismissed.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “We have received a report that a man, currently serving a prison sentence for stalking following an investigation by detectives in Brighton, has al legedly been car r y ing out harassment of one of the victims in that case. It is being investigated.”

HM Prison service said: “We’re sorry for any distress. Strict measures are in place but human error meant letters were able to leave the prison in this case. Staff have received training to prevent it from happening again.”

East Kent Hospitals Trust said: “We can confirm we received a letter.”

Jim Kerr’s spokesman refused to comment.

NHS England refused to comment.
