Sanctions for Taliban F.A.I. DEMAND OVER BLUNDER BY POLICE

Pa k i s tan has i ssued financial sanctions against the Taliban in Afghanista­n, just as the militant group is involved in a US-led peace process.

The orders identi f ied dozens of individual­s, including the Taliban’s chief peace negotiator Abdul Ghani Baradar.

The sanctions were issued as part of Pakistan’s efforts to avoid being blackliste­d by the Financial Action Task Force, which monitors money laundering and tracks terrorist groups’ activities.

The family of a man who died after he was attacked by a mentally ill neighbour have called for a fatal accident inquiry to be held into his death.

John White, 75, dialled 999 after being kicked in the stomach in a street assault by Oskars Rancevs, who also battered to death Martyn Smith, 73, in the same incident.

But officers sent to the OAP’s home in Oban failed to speak to him, mistaking another elderly man they talked to for John.

His sister Joan Drummond wants an FAI into the October 2018 tragedy after growing frustrated by the wait for answers.

Ex-cabbie John lay in his flat for 11 hours, his phone in his hand, until worried relatives called police. He had died from cardiac arrest caused by stress.

His death was referred to the Police Investigat­ion and Review Commission­er (PIRC), whose report was passed to the Crown Office last year.
