Jon’s feet can take him places

-

Jon McCracken believes the ability he’s got with his FEET as well as his hands can help him become a top keeper.

The young Norwich City stopper has ambitions to play at the highest level for club and his country Scotland.

He’s convinced that trying to emulate the likes of Manchester City’s Ederson and Barcelona No.1 Marc-Andre ter Stegen is how he’ll do it.

They’re just as adept at initiating goals as they are at keeping them out and McCracken said: “I’d like to think I’m good with the ball at my feet and all the top goalies have that now.

“The ones I look up to are the likes of ter Stegen and Ederson, they’re a different class.

“Ederson could play centre midfield if he wanted – he’s just a joke, he’s that good.

“But even the Scotland keepers now are outstanding like David Marshall, who I got to train with at Wigan previously.”

McCracken could have stayed at Hamilton Accies to learn his trade as a youngster but quickly opted for a move to England at 16.

He has revealed that a heavy Scottish influence at Carrow Road made the transition easier to cope with.

He said: “Alex Neil and Frankie McAvoy already knew me from Hamilton.

“There was interest from other clubs but the connection I had with those two swayed me to join Norwich.

“It was too good to turn down. Whether it was Norwich or another club, I had decided in my head I wanted to get down to England.

“I wanted access to the facilities and the coaching down here in order to develop.

“It was an easy decision for me. Alex, Frankie and Alan Irvine were in charge – all Scots – so they helped me at the start.

“There were first-team boys like Russell Martin, Steven Whittaker and Graham Dorrans here as well.

“Hearing the Scottish voices definitely helped me settle quickly at the club.”
