Palestine flag stunt at school probed

-

A Palestinian flag was flown above one of Ayr’s biggest schools today after a major security breach.

The f lag pole, which towers above the town’s Grammar Primary, was accessed overnight on Friday.

C ou nc i l of f i c i a l s removed the f lag late yesterday afternoon.

Ayr West counci l lor, Martin Dowey, said: “This is a hugely concerning security breach at one of our primary schools and will clearly need investigating as a matter of urgency.”

South Ayrshire Council has been contacted for comment.

It follows a pro-Palestine protest outside Hampden Park before Friday night’s footbal l international between Scotland and Israel, which ended 1-1.

Videos showed demonstrators outside the nat ional stadium chanting “Palestine” before kick- off.

The protest was staged to support a cal l from Palestinian football players to boycott the match between the two nations.

Red paint was a lso splashed over a road leading into the ground with the words: “Palestinian blood,” daubed on a wall.

Mick Napier, a founding member of the Scottish Palest inian Sol idar ity Campaign, said: “I was around to see apartheid and the boycott of sports was one of the biggest ways to hit South Africa at that time.

“It seems evident the public opinion is critical of Israel.”

He was repor ted to be furious his brother hadn’t spoken to him about the proposed documentary – par t of a £75million deal with Netflix.

Harry and wife Meghan are understood to have held discussions about a feature on Diana’s family history.

But William is believed to be highly displeased.

A source said: “Harry hasn’t spoken to William in over three months and they have had another falling out over the Sussexes’ plans to make a feature documentary on Pr incess Diana’s family history and heritage.

“It is early stages but it is looking like it could happen as it was an area that Harry wanted to explore and is obviously very close to his heart.

“William found out about it through another fami ly member who Harry had told and was upset that he was effectively sidelined.

“He can’t bel ieve Har ry wouldn’t pick up the phone to discuss it with him. He is furious.”

Last week, it emerged the Royal Family will cast a critical eye over any programmes produced by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

A Palace insider claimed that while they quit royal duties with everyone’s best wishes, it was made clear future commercial deals would be “subjectt to discussion”.

The brothers’ feud begann in 2018, it is claimed, when Harry rry told Wills he wasn’t doing ng enough to include Meghan an in the Royal Family.

Last October, Harry said id he and William were “on n different paths”.

The remark came during g ITV documentary Harry y and Meghan: An African n Journey.

He said: “Part of this role and part of this job, and this family, being under the pressure that it’s under, inevitably, you know, stuff happens. But look, we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers.

“And we’re certainlyy on different paths at the moment t but I’ll always be there for him, as I know he’ll always be there for me.

“We don’t see each other as much because we’re so busy but, you know, I love him dearly.

“The majority of this stuff is created out of nothing but as brothers, you know, you have good days, you have bad days.”

Then, in July, came Finding Freedom, a biography about the Sussexes by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

It was widely believed the Sussexes co- operated with the authors

– though the couple denied ththat. t

The book claims William, 38, warned Harry off former Suits actress Meghan, saying he needed to “take as much time as you need to get to know this girl”.

A source also said William didn’t want his brother to be “blindsided by lust”.

The book added: “Harry was tired of the dynamic that had become established between him and his older brother.”

While the princes are believed not to have spoken since the publication of the book, William is expected to contact Harry on his 36th birthday on September 15.

A source claimed: “The brothers haven’t spoken for over three months and while Harry wished Prince George a happy birthday back in July, there was no contact between him and William.

“It’s likely the silence will be broken by Wi l l iam, who’s expected to reach out to Harry on his birthday.

“Harry has also told friends that he will stand beside him to unveil Diana’s statue next July.”

Harry and Meghan, 39, will

produce documentaries, docu- series, f ilms, scripted shows and kids’ programming for Netf lix. Some shows will focus on issues of race and feminism.

And the couple confirmed they it will be content that “informs but also gives hope”.

It is the first deal announced since they stepped down as senior royals earlier this year.

Harry, Meghan and one-yearold son Archie have lived in the Los Angeles area since March.

In July, they bought an £11million house in Montecito – north of Malibu. Netflix is also

set to s t r e aamm a controversial theatrical show titledDiana:titledDiana: A NewNewMusicalMusical. It details the collapse of Charles and Di’s marriage with swathes of vulgar dialogue.

It is not linked to Harry and Meghan.

Of the fallout over plans for a documentary about Diana, a spokesperson for William said: “This isn’t something we would comment on.”

A representative for Netf lix said: “There is nothing to say on programming currently.”

Meghan and Harry did not respond to a request for comment.
