Brighton No.2 Billy reckons Duffy will excel in Scotland

-

A bullet header for the Republic of Ireland gave Celtic fans a glimpse of what they can expect from Shane Duffy at set-pieces.

Billy Reid insists the Parkhead new boy will soon be causing MAYHEM in penalty boxes all across Scotland.

The Brighton No.2 wasn’t surprised by the centre-back’s equaliser for the Irish against Bulgaria on Thursday night.

Former Hamilton Accies boss Reid says Duffy can be dominant at either end of the pitch with his power and aerial ability.

He’s adamant that Neil Lennon has pulled off a coup getting the 28-year- old to swap the South Coast for Glasgow’s East End.

Reid believes Celtic are getting a defender who is better than the level required to excel in the Scottish Premiership.

Duffy – who sealed a season-long loan deal last week – revealed that his love for the club was a deciding factor in him rejecting Premier League interest to sign up for Celts’ 10-in-a-row tilt.

Reid, who worked with the new Ireland captain for a year and a half, feels he’ll be a stand- out for Lennon’s side, whether he’s scoring goals or keeping them out.

He told MailSport: “Shane is a massive character in the dressing-room and I think it’s a coup for Celtic to get him.

“I have a great relationship with him and Celtic know what they’ve got.

“Neil has worked with Martin O’Neill, who had Shane in the Irish set-up. He’s different class.

“Celtic have got an absolute winner. He’s a beast in both boxes and he’ll cause mayhem up in Scotland.

“He’s a monster of a centre- back and I genuinely expect him to overpower people up in Scotland.

“He attacks the ball really well in both boxes and can head it for miles.

“He could be a colossus for Celtic this season. Listen, Duffy is a Premier League player.

“This isn’t a guy who’s on his last legs – he’s 28 and in his prime. It’s an incredible signing for Celtic.

“He is a rugged centre- half who loves defending his own box. Maybe that’s when he’s at his best.

“Of course, it will be a bit different at Celtic because they have a lot of the ball.

“But listen, Shane can pass it as well. In terms of standard of player, he’s above the Scottish Premiership.

“No-one goes from the Premier League to
