Ross: I’m Doohan best to be like Robby

-

Ross Doohan will use longterm glove rival Robby McCrorie as inspiration in his quest to star for Scotland.

The Celtic keeper – currently on loan at Ross County – will start for the Under- 21s in their Euro qualifier against Lithuania on Tuesday night.

McCrorie was alongside him in Scot Gemmi l l ’s original squad but was called up by national team gaffer Steve Clarke after getting game time on loan at Livingston from Rangers.

Doohan says his rise is one every player in the Under-21 set-up can look to emulate.

He said: “It’s great to see Robby going up to the A squad. It shows us there’s a pathway and that the manager is looking towards the future.

“It makes me want to get games for Ross County and do well for the Under-21s, then it could be me moving up.

“Myself and Robby have been together through all the age groups with Scotland.”

Doohan and McCrorie are on opposite sides of the Old Firm divide and are widely regarded as the two best young keepers in the country.

The Hoops kid said: “I try to block out the outside noise and do what’s best for me.

“I’ve just got tunnel vision, I only focus on myself and my own career right now.”

The Under-21s have failed to score in three Euro ties, drawing with the Lithuania and Czech Republic while losing 1- 0 to Greece.

A win in Vilnius on Tuesday is a must if they want to have any hope of qualifying for the 2021 tournament.

Doohan said: “It’s a big game. We’ve set ourselves back after starting well in the group. We want to get going again and a win in Lithuania would be ideal.”
