Licence to Killin

AH, MR BOND.. WE’VE BEEN EXPECTING YOU Scottish locations where 007 comes to shoot

-

FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, 1963 SEAN CONNERY

Unknown to the majority of cinema-goers at the time, it was Connery’s only Bond movie partly filmed in Scotland.

The spy and double agent Tatiana Romanova, played by Daniela Bianchi, were supposed to be in Turkey being pursued in a speed boat. But due to filming difficulties, the final boat chase was shot on Loch Craignish in Argyll. A helicopter chase was also filmed over Barrachuile Hill, north of Lochgilphead and Lunga pier, where Bond made his escape.

THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, 1977 ROGER MOORE

Faslane Naval Base, , on the eastern shore of Gare Loch in Argyll, is in a key moment in the movie. e.

Moore’s Bond arrives by helicopter r and discovers the loss oss of submarines is no accident but a plot by Karl Stromberg (Curd Jurgens) and henchman Jaws (Richard Kiel) to destroy the world.

It is the one and only time the base was allowed to be used as a movie location.

SKYFALL, 2012 DANIEL CRAIG

It’s the first time we see Bond’s rundown ancestral home, the ficticious Skyfall Lodge, set in Glen Coe, where Craig’s 007 meets M, played by Judi Dench.

The spy’s iconic Aston Martin DB5 is seen speeding down the A82, a twisty single-track road with the striking peaks of Buachaille Etive Mor and Buachaille Etive Beag on either side. While the house itself does not exist, the location is findable by diehard fans who have left their Skyfall marks on nearby road signs.

Director Sam Mendes honoured writer Ian Fleming, whose own family once owned a lodge in nearby Glen Etive.

In the 1969 Bond, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the agent reveals his late father is originally from Glen Coe.

THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, 1999 PIERCE BROSNAN

The castle has a cameo in The World Is Not Enough when it serves as the Scots HQ of MI6.

The film embraced the Scots connection, with Q (Desmond Llewelyn) showing Brosnan’s Bond bagpipes that double as a machine gun. Edinburgh-born Shirley Manson performed the theme song.

■ Heather Greenaway It’s no secret that secret agent 007 has always had a Bond with Scotland.

And it looks like Daniel Craig’s last outing as the super spy in No Time To Die is no exception.

An extraordinary car and helicopter chase in the Cairngorms is the highlight of the 25th James Bond movie, set for release in November.

And it’s now the fifth, or perhaps sixth, time the Highlands – where Ian Fleming’s fictional hero was born – has taken centre stage in the franchise.

NO TIME TO DIE, 2020 DANIEL CRAIG

It will become one of Bond’s most dramatic and death-defying car chases when seen by audiences.

The scene involves a grey Range Rover forced off the road by another 4x4 at the Ardverikie Estate near Aviemore as a helicopter circles above. The trailer shows footage of a chase by a loch, with one of the vehicles sent careering off a country track. Ben Collins – who was The Stig on Top Gear – has returned as Craig’s driving stuntman for the movie.

CASINO ROYALE, 1967 DAVID NIVEN

The comedy that divides fans had Niven as 007, coming out of retirement to investigate the deaths of other spies.

When M, played by John Huston, is killed, Bond goes to Scotland to see his widow.

Bond is seen driving past the Falls of Dochart on his way to see Lady Fiona McTarry, played by Scot Deborah Kerr.
