Arrows to exit for MVG

Michael van Gerwen will not be at the Premier League play- offs after crashing out with a whimper.

The Green Machine was crushed 8-2 by Daryl Gurney in Milton Keynes last night to finish outside of the top four who will be heading to London.

It means the Dutchman, who has topped the league section every year since his 2013 debut, will miss the showpiece for the first time.

Van Gerwen knew he needed at least a point from the night 16 showdown to keep his top-four bid alive.

But Northern Irishman Gurney showed no mercy as he raced into a 6- 0 lead, with van Gerwen ultimately paying for his 11 missed double attempts.

Peter Wright will be at the O2 showcase after he beat Michael Smith 8-5 to finish second in the table.

Gurney’s win meant the Scot was already sure of his place in the top four but the world champion ended his season with a bang.

Wright took a 7-2 lead only for Smith to win three successive legs. But any hopes of a comeback were quashed by Wright, who will feature in the play-offs for the first time since 2017.

Snakebite wi l l face Nathan Aspinall after he thrashed Glen Durrant, who topped the table in his debut season, 8-2.

Gary Anderson lost last night’s battle with Gerwyn Price 8-3 and will now face Durrant in the play-offs.

The Welshman enjoyed an average of 107.7 as Anderson failed to shine on the final group night.

Price said: “That was a Gary none of us know. He didn’t really turn up there.

“But I sti ll had to concentrate all the way through, make sure I won and put the pressure on the other players.”
