Jeremie up and Hatem

-

Jeremie Frimpong says a battle with fellow rightback Hatem Abd Elhamed can take his own game to a new level this season.

The Dutch teenager was a revelation for Celtic last term after arriving from Manchester City.

Frimpong had a positive impact on Neil Lennon’s team as they secured the Premiership title and League Cup.

But the 19-year- old is ready to go again and believes that with Israeli international Elhamed competing with him in defence, it will only make him better.

Ahead of Wednesday night ’s game with St Mirren in Paisley, Frimpong said: “I try to improve with every game.

“I feel I can do even more for the team this year.

“With Hatem playing well, that competition can push me on.

“We all want to show the gaffer who’s best so that brings it out in us.”

Celts are playing catchup in the league due to the fall- out from Boli Bolingoli’s Covid-19 breach but Frimpong is adamant that Lennon’s men are not feeling the heat in what could be a vital season for the club.

He’s convinced that the Hoops’ new signings, including defender Shane Duffy, will make them stronger. Frimpong said: “There’s no pressure on us.

“We just take each game as it comes. The manager’s message is the same and that’s how it should be.

“It’s been a good transfer window. We’ve brought in some excellent players who can help the team.

“Shane will help a lot. He’s a big strong guy who’s been playing in the Premier League. He’ll be an excellent fit for this team and our squad is stronger now than last year.”
