BIG MATCH SPECIAL 5 wins, 300 fans and 1 happy Del

-

Aberdeen made it five wins on the bounce but demanding gaffer Derek McInnes still wants even more from his in-form team.

The Dons, backed by 300 of the Red Army who were allowed into Pittodrie as part of the fans’ test event, warmed up nicely for Thursday’s Europa League clash against Viking Stavanger in Norway.

Ross McCrorie scored his first goal for the club to claim a hard-fought victory against Kilmarnock.

Aberdeen now sit well-placed in the top four, knowing if they can win their two games in hand they could be right up there challenging at the top end of the Premiership.

Boss McInnes said: “I was pleased with the speed in the team and quick support as some of the play was really impressive but I’m still looking for more.

“The exciting part is that I know that there is better in us even though that’s five wins in a row now.

“We have only lost two goals in all six games this season which is encouraging but we would have liked to score a couple more today. However, we got the job done.”

It was McCrorie’s first goal since he scored at Pittodrie for old club Rangers back in 2018.

He has quickly become a Pittodrie favourite and although he limped off against Kilmarnock, McInnes expects him to be fit for Norway.

The manager said: “I should have taken him off earlier as he was suffering from a knee knock but I’m confident he will be fine for Norway.

“It was a great finish, and with his left foot at that, to finish off what was a great move f r om t he team.”

McI n n e s was delighted to see fans in Pittodrie for the first time and was g rat e ful for the support they gave.

He said: “We were aware the fans were there right from the warm- up and it was important to give them the win after not seeing the team in the flesh for so long.

“It’s great they could go away happy with the three points and I can promise them that there’s more to come from us.”

It was the first time fans had been inside t he stadium s ince March 7, when Dons beat H ibs pre - lockdown. There were 14,388 supporters inside Pittodrie that day but it was a tiny fraction of that yesterday as Scottish football tries to find its feet again.

Both teams had put the seats to a season-ticket ballot and for the lucky ones it was like the Golden Ticket in Charlie in the Chocolate Factory.

The fans, housed in the South Stand, had to wear their face masks at all times and were under strict instructions not to shout or sing but they were allowed to clap.

Aberdeen were unchanged from the team who started in the win at Hibs before the international break.

Kilmarnock had an impressive 4- 0 win of their own, against Dundee United, last time out.
