Mini Red Army see Dons march on

-

from that team with Ross Millen returning from suspension and Zeno Rossi dropping to the bench.

Aberdeen quickly clicked into gear and went close when Tommie Hoban headed a Matty Kennedy corner towards goal but Andrew Considine knocked wide.

The Dons then showed patience and persistence in equal measure to take the lead in 16 minutes.

The ball went back out to Joe Lewis and he found Kennedy who then fed Scott Wright. The winger pulled the ball back for McCrorie to drill a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner of Danny Rogers’ net.

Killie started well and then faded, although they went close with a good effort in 33 minutes.

Chris Burke taunted and teased his defender before his cross was headed out to Greg Kiltie who cracked in a low shot that Lewis pushed wide.

Killie looked more dangerous as the half drew to a close with Wright clearing a dangerous Millen cross from danger.

Kirk Broadfoot took a couple of knocks and was brave in a challenge on McCrorie just before half-time but the defender failed to re-appear after the interval and was replaced by Clevid Dikamona.

The second half was pretty pedestrian until the closing stages.

Jonny Hayes showed good skill to cut in from the left and crack in a shot that Rogers, on his Pittodrie return, tipped over the bar.

Substitute Mitch Pinnock picked out Kiltie but his shot was deflected wide while Aberdeen should have gone further ahead when Marley Watkins split open the Kilmarnock defence for Wright to run clear but he shot wide of the target.

Killie created a great chance of their own when Pinnock pulled it back to Rory McKenzie to let f ly but Scott McKenna managed to deflect it over the bar. Hayes and Hoban then failed to take late chances to make the final score more convincing.
