Jakub’s not only cracker in Lech side

- Scott McDermott

Lech Poznan may have £11million loan star Jakub Moder on their books but Tom Hateley has pinpointed another two players Rangers will need to shackle this week.

The Poles will arrive at Ibrox on Thursday desperate for points after losing their group opener to Benfica.

Lech sold midfielder Moder to Brighton in the summer for a record fee before borrowing him back.

But Hateley, who spent four years in Polish football with Slask Wroclaw and Piast Gliwice, says experienced Portuguese playmaker Pedro Tiba and teenage winger Jakub Kaminski are just as dangerous.

The former Motherwell star said: “Lech have brought through a lot of young players and they’re known in Poland as an exciting team.

“Moder, who just signed for Brighton for £11m, is very good.

“I played against him last season and he scored a great free- kick against us. He’s comfortable on the ball, attacking, has a good pass and is very good at set-plays.

“Their best player is Tiba. He’s older at 32, more experienced, ultra composed and can get a goal.

“He’s the one who makes them tick and he’ll try to dictate and run the show for them.

“Moder just broke the Polish transfer record but Lech’s young left winger Kaminsky, who’s only 18, is being tipped to be the next one.

“The strongest part of Lech’s team is their midfield, with Moder, Tiba and the Spanish player Dani Ramires.

“That’s a good three so it’ll be a good battle with Rangers because they aren’t bad in that area either.”

Lech boss Dariusz Zuraw wants his young team to attack but that leaves them vulnerable at the back.

That was proven in their opening group game against Benfica as they crashed to a 4-2 defeat.

Hateley says Gers will face a very different Polish side to Legia Warsaw, whom they beat in the Europa League qualifiers last term.

Now at Cypriot side AEK Larnaca, Hateley said: “Lech and Legia are completely different sides.

“Legia are a bit more stuffy than Lech.

“So Lech will be more expansive, that’s how they played in the qualifiers and in the opening group game.

“They will attack without fear but that could play into Rangers’ hands.

“I expect Rangers to create chances and win. They’re in good form, playing confidently and aren’t conceding goals.”
