Ton gaffer is Hopping mad

David: Dees helped get my man sent off

- NEIL ROBERTSON

Raging Morton boss David Hopkin accused Dundee of helping to get Robbie Muirhead sent off.

The Ton frontman saw red in the 74th minute for two quick-fire bookings as Jonathan Afolabi’s early strike won it.

Muirhead contributed to his troubles by sarcastically clapping ref Gavin Ross after a row over a throw-in.

But Ton boss Hopkin blasted Dundee’s role in it. He said: “I think it is poor. It is a throw- in to us and Robbie shouldn’t react but he has had a go at the linesman.

“Their players and coaching staff were shouting at the referee to give him a second yellow which I thought was really poor.

“I don’t see why they’ve done it to our player. It makes the referee make a decision and he decides to send Robbie off.”

Ton had already been behind for more than an hour after Afolabi drilled a volley past keeper Aidan McAdams from Jordan Marshall’s fifth minute cross.

But Hopkin reckons they were the better team and should have won.

He said: “We switched off at the goal but after that I felt we controlled the match.

“We were more organised and wanted to play football.

“I just thought we looked the better team, we looked fitter, we looked organised and we caused Dundee problems.

“I am devastated we lost as we didn’t deserve a draw, we deserved three points.”

Dens boss James McPake was delighted that his side bounced back from their 6-2 opening day defeat to Hearts to secure the win.

He said: “We showed plenty of character and at times it wasn’t pretty but it doesn’t need to be. I am delighted for the players because they needed that win as a group.

“We all needed a pick-me-up from last week and it was a dangerous game as Morton were coming in 11 unbeaten.

“There are times when you just want the three points and this was one of them.

“It was a tough week for the players - they were hurting as was ever ybody but the important thing was getting the three points.”
