We’ll fill in the blanks

- Fraser Mackie

Micky Mellon has vowed his goal- shy Dundee United will come good with the help of a fully fit Marc McNulty.

The Scotland striker lasted 70 minutes on his first start for the club but United have now failed to score in half of their 12 Premiership games.

Mellon started with Lawrence Shankland and Nicky Clark alongside his new signing.

He said: “If it suits and it looks like it’s going to give us an opportunity to score goals, which I believe it will, then we will play the three of them.

“I don’t think we can be accused of coming here and sitting in for a draw with the team we picked.

“We came to try and score as well as keep the clean sheet. Marc getting fitter will help.

“The quality of that front three will click at some stage and relationships will come.

“The team spirit’s terrific already, you see Shankland running back and pressing. It’s a selfless group.

“We are really strong on them being very organised and I think all the work we’ve done defensively has come to fruition.

“We want to be better at the other end but, having just come up to the league, you need to get the defensive side right first.

“Offer me a clean sheet at St Johnstone and I’d accept that.

“But, yes, we want to move forward and get better and with the quality of our front three I think we can do that.”

Benji Siegrist was once again the toast of his teammates with a series of point-saving stops.

Mellon said: “He’s a very, very good goalkeeper but those saves are just food and drink to him.

“It’s really nothing out of the ordinary, that’s just a mundane thing to him.”
