Zidane quietens snipers Saints stalemate

-

Zinedine Zidane reckons he’s silenced his critics after Real Madrid returned to form by dumping rivals Barcelona in El Clasico.

Questions were asked about whether Zidane was still the right man to lead Los Blancos heading into yesterday’s clash.

Real had suffered shock back-to-back defeats in La Liga and the Champions League but they bounced back in style to move top of the league.

Zidane said: “After the criticism we received, we had to stay calm and united. I don’t know if the criticism towards us was fair or not.

“What I can say is that I’m proud of my team.

“We have to enjoy it after all the comments that were made about us. We’re not here to shut people up. We’re here to do it our way and believe in what we do.”

Real went ahead when

good work from Karim Benzema saw Federico Valverde fire home after just five minutes.

Their joy was short lived as 17-year- old Ansu Fati became the youngest ever El Clasico scorer to haul Barca immediately level.

But Los Blancos went back in front in 63 minutes when Sergio Ramos tumbled in the box and the captain scored from the spot.

Real sealed it when sub Luka Modric finished off from close range.

Meanwhile, Ajax ripped up the record books in Holland after beating sorry VVV-Venlo 13- 0.

The win against their 10-man hosts is the biggest in the league’s history.

Already 4-0 down, Venlo collapsed in the second half leaking nine further goals after Christian Kum was sent- off in the 52nd minute. Lassina Traore bagged five goals with exPremier league stars Daley Blind and Dusan Tadic also weighing in.
