Games a bogey to Scott

- Fraser Mackie

Rangers tackle a tough fortnight of fixtures through Christmas and early New Year but Scott Arfield insists they won’t have a points total in mind.

Arf ield hasn’ t even looked at the schedule for fear of tripping up on the title path.

Hibs travel to Ibrox on December 26 and either side of that Boxing Day clash, Rangers must deal with games on the road at St Johnstone and St Mirren.

They begin 2021 with a visit from Celtic and a trip to Pittodrie.

Arfield said: “Once you look at a block of games, you set yourself up for a fall because the games are never as easy as people say they are.

“I’ve not even looked at the fixtures past Christmas. We know that, if you’re going to be successful in May, you need

to take care of games. We’ve found the answers more often than not so far.

“We’ll look at St Johnstone first on Wednesday then we’ll crack on over the Christmas period.”

McDiarmid Park was one of the places where Gers slipped up last season, blowing a lead with 10 minutes remaining in February to draw 2-2 and drop further behind Celtic.

Arfield said: “We can l ea rn from thos e experiences. It’s a tough place to go, they always make it difficult and have been on a good run.”

The midweek exit from the Betfred Cup saw Gers branded bottlers again.

Arfield was prepared for the accusation and he said. “We knew those comments would come, but you move on and show a reaction.

“It was massively disappointing. It’s a game we felt was there for us to go and win, with the first trophy up for grabs.

“The big thing now is reacting properly.”
