House’s Glad to be back at the Curragh

- ■

Joe Reilly Lancaster House hacked up in the Gladness Stakes at the Curragh.

Aidan O’Brien’s horse was a hot 9-4 favourite having landed the last running of the Group 3 back in 2019.

And the five-year-old gave his backers few worries as he travelled smoothly in rear under Ryan Moore.

The race was over once the duo went for home two out and they cruised home by two lengths from Current Option (15/2).

O’Brien said: “He’s a very solid horse and it’s a nice bit of ground, which he likes.

“Ryan Moore was very impressed with him and felt he had loads of horse. He finished very well.

“It was nice that he was able to drop in today and get a lead. He made the running in this race last time.

“He’s very versatile and has won over nine furlongs in soft ground at Listowel.

“Ryan said we could look at the Queen Anne, at Royal Ascot in June.”

The duo also landed the Alleged Stakes with Broome (1/2 Fav).

The five-year-old was pushed along for most of the 1m 2f trip and he

looked in trouble when Thundering Nights (9/1) powered to the front a furlong out.

However, the colt responded gamely to Moore’s urgings, coming with a strong late run to deny his rival by a half-length.

Moore and O’Brien enjoyed a four-timer as Glounthaune (9/4) and Wordsworth (Evens) landed their maidens on the card.

• Harry Skelton took a major step forward to claiming his first jump jockeys’ title with a double at Bangor.

The rider is six clear of defending champion Brian Hughes after wins on brother Dan’s Dan Gun (13/8 Fav) and

Dog Of War (3/1) at the Welsh venue.

■ Palace Pier heads the entries for Friday’s bet365 Sandown Mile.

John Gosden’s star could face Khuzaam and Safe Voyage in the Group 2 contest.
