ROVER & OUT FOR WASPS

- JOHN DOCHERTY

Peter Grant saw his Alloa side relegated then insisted they have been the victims of horrendous refereeing decisions this season.

Wasps keeper Neil Parry was sent off and had a penalty awarded against him for a challenge on Gozie Ugwu.

The Raith striker got up to net the penalty and make it 1-1 then Dylan Tait’s winner sent Grant’s men down to League One and sealed a play-off spot for Rovers.

Grant was upset at Greg Aitken’s red card call as his side dropped. He said: “It’s a massive disappointment.

“The remit when I came in was to try to keep them in the division. The chairman knows how difficult that is in a lot of different circumstances this year.

“But I’ve just got to look at it from a football point of view and we’ve not scored enough goals and we’ve conceded too many cheap ones.

“But, on top of that, we’ve had some horrendous decisions. To be fair, I

Grant’s ref rage as Alloa take drop

Alloa .............................1 Raith Rovers ...............2 thought it was a penalty kick but I’ve just watched it and the big guy has hit it by the post and run into Neil.

“It should actually be a booking to him and a bye-kick to us.

“I can understand why the ref did give it. But it’s definitely not an ordering-off. It’s a ridiculous decision, a terrible one. And we should have a penalty.

“People say it evens itself out, but that’s a load of rubbish. If it evened itsel f out we’d have had about 20 penalt ies this season!

“I was proud of the way they kept going and kept going. I feel gutted for them because I know the effort they put in and I’m absolutely gutted for the supporters.” Kevin Cawley met Jon Robertson’s cross to put Alloa ahead but Ugwu beat sub keeper Reece Willison from the spot to level after Parry brought him down. Then a great finish from kid Tait won it.

Raith’s John McGlynn said: “At the start of the season it would’ve been pie in the sky to think we could’ve got top four after coming up. It’s great, a phenomenal achievement for every single player who has played their part. I’m delighted for them all and we now have the play-offs to look forward to.”
