Pawlett may be a Saint
Peter Pawlett has confirmed he has held talks with St Johnstone – but hasn’t closed the door on staying at Dundee United.
The midfielder is out of contract this summer and has spoken with Saints boss Callum Davidson while he has also been offered o an extension by United U boss Micky Mellon.
Pawlett showed the speculation s hasn’ t unsettled u him as he hit the only o goal of the game at Forfar F on Friday.
He said: “I have spoken to t St Johnstone and people are a aware of that. Dundee United U have spoken to me.
“I’m in talks with the club c and I enjoy it here. It’s a great club to be at. We’ll see s what happens over the coming c weeks.
“I’m just doing my talking t on the pitch to put myself m in the best situation
“If I’m providing for Dundee D United I’ll get the opportunity o to be here or to t put myself in the shop window w elsewhere.”
The former Aberdeen and MK Dons star admits the key to his future will come down to where he feels he will play more.
Pawlett said: “I’ve been unfortunate this season. I missed two games with Covid, two games with suspension then two or three through injury.
“I’m 30 now. I know I’m getting on a bit but I still have a few years left. I just want to play football and enjoy it. I enjoy going into training and winning matches on a Saturday. That’s all every professional footballer wants to do.”
Pawlett insisted the speculation linking Mellon with a move hasn’t come into his reckoning.
He said: “The manager is fully focused on his job here. He’s brilliant every day in training and he drives the boys.”
