Railway show chiefs axe sex assault actor

Shamed star dropped as narrator for hit BBC series

- ■ Jennifer Hyland

Disgraced actor Kevin Guthrie has been dropped by the BBC as the voice of its hit programme Inside Central Station.

Guthrie was convicted of sexually assaulting a vulnerable actress following a trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier this month.

The Sunshine On Leith star, 33, took advantage of the 29-year-old, who had appeared ill after a night out.

Guthrie was the narrator on the first two series of the BBC Scotland show, which grants behind- the- scenes access to Glasgow Central Station.

However, the corporation has confirmed that the shamed star won’t feature in the third series, which is due to air later this year.

A BBC Scotland spokeswoman said: “Production on series three of Inside Central Station is currently paused unti l the station gets a bit busier.

“We’ve not decided on a narrator for the series but it won’t be Kevin Guthrie.”

Inside Central Station has proved to be one of BBC Scotland’s most popular series after being viewed by 700,000 people.

Series three was originally set for broadcast this spring. Six new episodes are set to revisit the nation’s favourite familiar faces on the concourse as they battle

to get the country back on track following the challenging events of the past year.

Guthrie, of Glasgow’s Yorkhill, attacked the woman between September 30 and October 1, 2017.

The incident occurred at the flat of actor Scott Reid – Methadone Mick in BBC’s Still Game. Guthrie insisted he had only “helped” the woman but his DNA was found inside her underwear. The

woman had been due to meet Guthrie and Scott at a bar on the night of the attack.

But Scott received a call from a taxi driver to collect her as she appeared ill. He and Guthrie helped the woman into the flat in Glasgow’s Kelvindale and put her on a bed.

Scott called NHS 24, leaving Guthrie in the room “to make sure she was OK”.

But the woman told how she was left “frozen” as she recalled her “top being lifted” and her “bra being held down” by Guthrie.

He carried out a further two sexual acts and kissed her on the mouth.

Guthrie had denied the sexual assault charge and wept and said “why?” as the guilty verdict was read out.

He is due to be sentenced next month and has been placed on the sex offenders’ register.
