VIGILANTES PROTESTED OUTSIDE WRONG HOME

- Gary Carter

A “vigilante” group has had to apologise after it launched an “antipredator” protest outside the home of an innocent woman.

Fi fe Parent s Against Predators regularly share “alerts” about convicted paedophiles and others accused of crimes against children and young people.

The group has a lso organised protests at the homes of people who have been convicted. But one such protest in Glenrothes went wrong af ter the group targeted the home of an innocent woman.

An apology said the group had received “incorrect information” and had got the wrong address.

The group had shared a video showing the woman’s home and one local said people may have seen that and not seen the apology admitting they got it wrong.

“It should be left up to the professionals,” they said.

In an apology on their Facebook page, the group said: “All of us here hang our heads in shame and are truly sorry for the events of last night, this will NOT happen again. We hope our followers can still stand behind us.”

At t he p r o t e s t in the Col lydean area of Glenrothes, an object was thrown at the person’s house but the group insisted this was nothing to do with them.

The group posted online: “The object thrown and the harassment that was given was the residents of the community, nobody from our team took part in this.

“This will not be tolerated by us in any way.”

Police Scotland encouraged people not to take the law into their own hands.
