Nathan has Scot a dream
Nathan Patterson admits he is in dreamland with Scotland at their Euro 2020s training camp.
The Rangers kid was still mixing it with the Under-21s when Steve Clarke’s side secured their place at Euro 2020 in November last year.
But now the 19-year- old has been catapulted into the senior setup as they prepare for their first major finals for 23 years.
Patterson could now earn his first full cap against the Netherlands in Wednesday’s warm-up friendly and it’s a dream come true for him.
The full-back said: “It’s mad. When we were with the 21s we were watching the boys qualify.
“Being a part of the squad now, it’s a bit of a surreal moment.
“It’s been great, a dream come true to be a Scotland ‘A’ player.
“But now I’m here. It’s been good meeting all the boys. They’ve been great with me.
“I’ve been sitting having a chat with a few of them, getting to know them.”
It took Pat terson just seven Premiership appearances to convince Clarke he was worth a place in his 26-man contingent.
The teenager insists it’s through giving his all every single day in training with Rangers that he has made such an impression in a staggeringly short space of time.
Asked how he has made the breakthrough, Patterson said: “Just being consistent in training and working hard every day.
“Making sure I was ready for any opportunities that came my way throughout the full season.
“I made sure that I was willing to do anything to get on the pitch and I think that worked out for me at the end of the season.”
