Scott already cheering up for Parkhead

- ■ Mark Pirie

Former Celtic favourite Scott Sinclair is hoping to play in front of the Parkhead support once again after his quiet exit from Glasgow.

The winger moved to Preston in January 2020 after struggling for game time under former Hoops boss Neil Lennon.

Sinclair had won nine trophies during his three years at the club in the treble Treble-winning side.

But he was quietly sent packing to the Engl ish Championship with little fanfare, his final Celtic Park appea ranc e coming in September 2019 in a League Cup outing against Partick Thistle.

However, the 32-year-old will now return to his old club as a Deepdale player in a pre-season friendly on July 17.

Sinclair hopes the Hoops fans are back in the ground so the former Player of the Year winner can finally get the long-awaited farewell he craves from them.

He told the Preston club website: “When the friendly was announced I was obviously really excited to go back.

“I have some great memories of being at Celtic so it’s always nice to go back to former clubs and play against them.

“It’s one of my best times, one of the happiest times of my career so far, just because we were winning every game and winning trophies, league titles and the Scottish Cup.

“When we went the first season unbeaten, we made history.

“I haven’t been back there since I left the club so I am really looking forward to it.”

Sinclai r admits his excitement levels are ramped up.

He said: “I have never looked forward to a preseason game against a team so much.

“It will be nice to go back up there and really soak in the atmosphere.

“Hopefully the fans will be back in and just enjoy it because I didn’t really get a send-off from the fans when I left in January.

“With the treble Treble and myself getting Player of the Year, and given what we did as a team, it was a great three-and-a-half years.

“I feel like I left on a good note with the fans.

“I’m sure they would give me a good reception if they’re watching and they’re in, so it will be a great day for everyone.

“For a pre-season friendly, you could not ask for a better club to play against than Celtic.”
