Ange is in line to be boss
turned the job down on Friday. Parkhead chiefs are in advanced talks with the former Australia gaffer.
And MailSport understands that an offer has already been made to Postecoglou and that the Hoops hierarchy are confident of getting their man this time fol lowing positive discussions.
The 55-year- old Greek has been on Celtic’s radar since Neil Lennon was relieved of his duties as manager back in February.
But they embarked on a long-term pursuit of former Bournemouth boss Howe, only for the Englishman to pull the plug last week.
Postecoglou is now at the top of their wish list and the club’s hierarchy believe he won’t be fazed by being their second choice.
Club sources confirmed last night that talks are ongoing with him and his representatives.
And crucially, MailSport understands that Postecoglou is very keen on becoming Celtic’s new manager.
The club’s new chief executive Dominic McKay is treating it as a matter of urgency and wants a deal done as quickly as possible, even though the Greek is currently in charge of Japanese side Yokohama Marinos.
Covid restrictions and rules could delay the appointment as Postecoglou would have to quarantine for 10 days on arriving in the country.
But the Hoops are keen to get it done as soon as possible after missing out on top target Howe.
Postecoglou has enjoyed success at A-League outfit Brisbane Roar and won the Asian Cup in 2015 as boss of the Socceroos.
And Celtic now believe that he’s the right man to replace Lennon as permanent boss as the club try to regain their Premiership title from Rangers next term.
They have been impressed by his experience in the game as well as his coaching CV.
They also believe he’s the type of strong personality to manage a rebuild of the Parkhead squad this summer, with several stars’ futures at the club uncertain.
