We’ve got our Jacks
Goal hero Jack Hamilton believes Arbroath’s fairytale push for promotion to the Premiership is fuelled by a spirit of togetherness in the dressing room.
The Livingston striker is enjoying a second loan spell at Gayfield after helping the Angus side avoid relegation last season.
On Friday evening the 20- year- old danger man sunk Kilmarnock with a goal which propelled the RedLichties four points clear of their title rivals at the top of the table.
It was by no means a classic strike but it was his fifth from four league and cup appearances since returning to Gayfield in early January – and it could prove to be invaluable.
He said: “I won the ball back in the middle of the park and kept on driving forward – then thought I might as well have a fly and it just went in.
“I’ve not got the best of connections to the shot but it just managed to go under the keeper. I didn’t know if it was going to go in or not. I just ran away.”
Last season Hamilton joined the club when the Lichties were rock bottom but his eight goals in 13 games proved crucial in hoisting the Angus men to seventh position and safety by the end of the campaign.
He said:” There’s a real belief and character about the squad. Everyone is brilliant with each other. The chemistry is amazing among the team. We all work hard for each other and we’re playing well.
“We’ve got some really good players . Scot t y (Stewart) got man of the match. He was outstanding. The defence was solid as usual, midfield was always winning second balls. We had (Craig)Wighton and me up front and the subs coming on did really well.”
That dressing room camaraderie extends to a down-to-earth refusal to be drawn on where Dick Campbell ’s shock troops might find themselves at the end of the term.
Hamilton said: “We are doing well so we’ll just keep trying our best and see how it goes.”
