NO KANE NO GAIN

Deadly Harry shows City what they are missing as title rice is fired open

-

Harry Kane showed Manchester City what they are missing in an incredible game that saw Spurs blow the Premier League title race wide open.

The England striker’s goal that put Tottenham 2-1 ahead in the 59th minute looked to be the winner as the clock passed the 90-minute mark.

But a Cristian Romero handbal l al lowed Riyad Mahrez to equalise for the league leaders from the penalty spot two minutes into added time.

Incredibly there was still time for Kane to strike again as he showed why City had tried so hard to sign him in the summer.

And Kane said: “It was a crazy game. We worked so hard for so long. We were 2-1 ahead for such a long time. To see the penalty awarded was so heartbreaking but credit to the boys for creating another chance at the end.

“To get the result we did was really, really special.”

Spurs stunned City in the fourth minute when Dejan Kulusevski scored on his first league start since joining on loan from Juventus.

Kane dropped deep and set Son Heung- Min racing through with a delightful pass and he unself ishly played in Kulusevski who converted into an empty net. But on a day when Spurs needed their keeper to be at his very best if they were to stand a chance, Hugo Lloris produced a costly error that allowed City to equalise just after the half-hour.

The Frenchman, who cost two goals in last week’s 2- 0 loss to Wolves, spi l led Raheem Sterling’s cross and Ilkay Gundogan was on hand to convert into an empty net.

The away side continued to look dangerous on the break after half-time and Son tested Ederson from distance after being played in by Kane. But there was nothing the City keeper could do about

Kane’s brilliant goal that saw Tottenham regain their lead just before the hour.

After Ryan Sessegnon picked up a loose ball, he fed Son who his time to pick out his mate Kane, who was arriving late in the box to produce a sublime finish into the top corner.

Kane did have the ball in the net in the 73rd minute with another clinical finish but the celebrations were ruined by VAR as Kulusevski was offside in the build-up.

City didn’t really look like levelling but were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute when stopper Romero handled, with ref Anthony

Taylor changing his decision after seeing the replay on the pitchside monitor.

But Kane was not done and there was one more twist in stoppage time. Kulusevski got the ball out on the right, cut inside and delivered a perfect cross for Kane to power a header home.

City’s defeat, only a third in the league this season, means they are now only six points ahead of Liverpool who also have a game in hand.

City boss Pep Guardiola said: “Tottenham have a lot of quality, they give the ball to Harry Kane. They are really good up front. It’s difficult when they defend so deep.

“We had the chances score. We didn’t need to lose a game already to know how hard it is to win the league.

“There are many, many games still to play.”
