Slovak from the dread

-

Scotland’s women bounced back in style as they saw off Slovakia in the Pinatar Cup.

Goals from Abi Harrison and Martha Thomas were enough to see off Slovakia as Pedro Martinez Losa’s side shook off a 3-1 opening defeat to Wales.

The Scots were at it from the off and coped better with the windswept conditions at an open and exposed Pinatar Arena.

They were ahead after just four minutes when Caroline Weir played a lovely ball over the defence into Harrison who made no mistake with a clinical finish.

Slovakia were struggling to get to grips with Weir and just a minute later she delivered an inviting cross for Thomas who headed just wide. Claire Emslie was also tormenting the defence and was unlucky not to be rewarded with a goal after driving from the hal f- way line before

lobbing the keeper but her effort crept just over.

Scotland’s pressure paid off in 27 minutes when another run and cross from Elmsl ie saw Thomas stretch out a leg to divert the ball beyond keeper Dominika Rezekova.

Weir then drew a smart stop from Rezekova after good link- up play with Elmslie but was f lagged offside anyway.

Lee Alexander was a peripheral figure until being called into action in 43 minutes to deny Dominika Skorvankova with a low stop.

Scotland could have had the game wrapped up in first-half injury time but Harrison’s shot was well saved by Rezekova.

They continued to dominate after the break and Nicola Docherty flashed a great cross across goal before Weir’s shot was well blocked.

Sub Lana Clelland then came close when Rezekova was equal to her fierce halfvolley but Scotland saw out a comfortable win.
