New Buddies boss will be a lucky man

LIVINGSTON.................. 1 ST MIRREN..................... 1

- GORDON PARKS AT TONY MACARONI STADIUM

Jamie Langf ield insists St Mirren players proved there is l ife af ter Jim Goodwin after salvaging a point at Livingston.

And the stand-in gaffer claims that whoever lands the job will be the luckiest man in the SPFL.

Greg Kiltie’s late leveller ensured the Buddies kept an eight- game unbeaten run intact after Livi opened through a bizarre Joe Shaughnessy own goal in a game that saw Charles Dunne red- carded for the managerless Paisley side.

Langfield said: “Livingston were better than us. But to keep our unbeaten run going, especially after the last couple of days, is testament to the players.

“In the first half we were a wee bit all over the place. I’ll take full responsibility for that because we’ve probably not done enough work as we should going into a game. It’s been a bit hectic and all over the place.

“I can only say whoever comes in is one lucky person because they get to work with probably one of the best bunch of players I’ve seen at St Mirren in a long, long time.”

Jordan Jones was first to threaten for the Buddies as he cut in from the left before firing in a low shot wide of target. Livi then came close as Ayo Obileye powered in a header from a corner that was inches too high.

Fol lowing the restart the impressive Joel Nouble slashed a shot wide after a jinking James Forrest run.

The opener arrived in bizarre fashion. Nicky Devlin’s low delivery from the left was met by Bruce Anderson who slammed an effort against the post only for the ball to rebound off Shaughnessy and past Jak Alnwick.

It could have been two as Jack Fitzwater’s low shot was blocked.

Saints levelled in the 78th minute. Kiltie’s low shot found the back of the net via a deflection off Forrest and seconds later the Paisley side went down to 10 men after Dunne shoved a hand in the face of Sebastian Soto to earn a straight red.

L i v i b o s s Da v i d Martindale said: “I’m not happy. We got behind St Mirren about eight times and our f inal decisionmaking is not right just now.

“I’m bitterly disappointed because it was a chance to get us in the top six.”
