Outlook is better for me
Are Celtic still alive in Europe?
I am 72 and medical opinion would categorise me as a vulnerable adult now that I have tested positive for Covid-19 and gone into isolation.
But I’ll be here on Friday morning, don’t you worry about that.
I wouldn’t give Celtic’s European status the same confident prognosis the morning after playing Bodo/Glimt in Norway.
There’s a game of torture telepathy that Celtic and Rangers play because their rivalry is so intense they live inside each others heads.
I think Rangers’ result in Dortmund spooked Celtic in the minutes leading up to their game on Thursday and preyed on the minds of the crowd at the same time.
Cue a nervous start, an early deficit and growing discomfort in the stands before an early departure to beat the traffic.
Ange Postecoglou might say it is only half-time in
the tie but that statement is open to more than one interpretation.
Things could yet get worse instead of better.
Today might bring an identical scenario in the race for the title that makes Europa Conference League an irrelevance in the eyes of the majority of fans.
Rangers will surely take care of a f laky Dundee United and replace Celtic at the top of the table before they kick-off against Dundee.
And it is on days like this, when Celtic are overwhelming favourites, that hesitancy creeps in.
Think Livingston, home and away, and St Mirren in Paisley when the home club considered forfeiting the points because they had a Covid-ravaged squad.
Those games accounted for a total of seven points dropped. Needlessly.
Thursday, apparently, was Random Acts Of Kindness Day in Scotland.
It wasn’t meant to take in Celtic’s defence but it was a good fit nevertheless.
Any repeat today would be a random act of folly.
