Robbo: I need better

- Graeme Macpherson

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson admitted his team deserved NOTHING against Dundee United.

Saints lost for only the second time in 10 home games as Marc McNulty struck deep in injury time.

But Robbo had no complaints about the outcome – or the red card f lashed to keeper Jak Alnwick just minutes before the winner.

The Saints gaffer said:“I didn’t think we deserved anything. We started brilliantly with Jay Henderson’s goal, it was a superb strike. Him and Conor Ronan were the only bright sparks we had.

“We didn’t pass the ball well enough in the second half when United started turning us. We didn’t defend well enough and were taking touches when we shouldn’t have.

“I think it was fear. We

had a 20 minute spell before half-time when we controlled the game and had lots of corners but we came out in the second half and stepped off.

“I didn’ t think our forward players gave us anything in terms of our press. We didn’t play or pass the ball, so if you’re not going to do that you’re going to play the next 47 minutes defending and we didn’t defend well enough when we needed to.”

Alnwick was sent off after charging to take out Tony Watt as the striker latched on to a long ball.

Ref Nick Walsh produced a red but Robinson felt that wasn’t the reason for the defeat. He added: “I haven’t seen it but I’ve been told it’s a red card. That’s not why we lost the game, we didn’t perform well enough.

“We’re very lucky we’ve still got two games where we’re a point off top six and three off fourth place. So it’s very much still to play for but it certainly needs to be better than that.”
