Channon’s new recruit bounces back to his best with Lincoln rout
Johan kicked off a new career for Mick Channon with a decisive win in the Lincoln at Doncaster.
The gelding was a 28/1 shot for the historic handicap after his form tailed off at the end of last season for William Haggas.
However, he looked revitalised as he travelled smoothly under newly- freelance Silvestre De Sousa before powering past Saleymm (17/2) a furlong out.
The five-year-old then stayed on strongly in the closing stages to score cosily by a length with Rogue Bear (12/1) third.
De Sousa said “I was very pleased. I spoke earlier with Mick Channon and he said ride the horse as you find him and I got him into a nice rhythm.
“I pressed the button when I wanted to go and he did. I’m delighted for Mick as he’s been a great supporter of me.”
Volatile Analyst (12/1) lifted the SBK Cammidge Trophy for Carluke handler Keith Dalgleish.
The sprinter collared Diligent Harry (7/4 Fav) a furlong out and showed a cracking attitude to land his first Listed success by a head under Callum Rodriguez.
Rodriguez said: “It’s nice he’s done it at this level because we’ve always held him in high regard. Hopefully he can have a good year now.”
Frankie Dettori timed it to perfection on American star Country Grammer (15/2) in the Dubai World Cup at Meydan.
The rider was content to bide his time on Bob Baffert’s raider
as Irad Ortiz Jr set a blistering pace on red-hot 8/13 favourite
Life Is Good.
The top jockey pounced two out and the five-year-old quickly surged clear to land the huge prize by two lengths from Hot Rod Charlie (4/1).
Dettori also enjoyed a share of the glory in the Dubai Turf on Lord North (10/3).
John Gosden’s defending champion dead- heated with Japanese raider Panthalassa (8/1) after a tense final-furlong battle in the 1m 1f showpiece.
