Joy on the big stage
Fran Alonso’s Celtic took full advantage of the invite to take centre stage as they served up a dominant display against Hibs.
The Parkhead side are realistically playing for third place yet this was a performance that belied a title bid that has stuttered since the turn of the year.
Just over 3000 fans were in attendance as Celtic Park sweltered in unseasonably warm sunshine. Alonso joked that his side are more used to playing through the snow and rain but there was no wilting in the heat.
Celtic may have hoped to entice a few more through the door given that the game was free to season- ticket holders but those who did turn up enjoyed themselves.
A vocal element of the Green Brigade provided support throughout with Alonso and his players taking a bow in front of them at full-time.
The coach said: “The girls were outstanding. We never fai l to enjoy the big occasions. For many of them it was the first time playing here so it was fantastic.
“You play for Celtic. You must win every game and you must fight. It doesn’t matter about the league and where you are.
“You saw the fans today and the backing they gave us. We want there to be tens of thousands the next time and we want to give them something to be proud of.
“I would play here every week if we could!”
Clarissa Larisey netted a beautifully-crafted opener within the first minute.
Celtic doubled their advantage midway through the first half thanks to Liv Chance before further goals followed after the break from Jodie Bartle and Chloe Wa r r ington as Celt ic strolled to the points.
Next up is a Scottish Cup qua r t er - f ina l a ga ins t Aberdeen.
