Jim puts focus on theGood

- Gordon Parks

Jim Goodwin insists Aberdeen will focus on the positives despite losing to Livingston plunging them deeper into the drop battle.

One win in 14 games has left the Dons just five points above St Johnstone in the relegation play-off spot.

But Goodwin believes his side merited much more yesterday and is now focused on a crunch contest with Dundee on Saturday.

He said: “It’s another frustrating afternoon for us. It would be a lot easier to come in and say we were outclassed and deserved losers but we weren’t.

“I thought we were the better team. We started as well as we ever have since I came in and we were on top.

“Liv ingston scored against the run of play but it was a poor goal from our point of view.

“We had to go and chase it and that’s been the case

since I came in. I don’t want to talk about hard luck stories as you make your own luck.

“I believe we are doing a lot right but we have to get back to keeping clean sheets and being hard to beat.

“We can’t need two or three goals to win a game but that’s the situation we find ourselves in.”

Goodwin refused to use ref Grant Irvine’s display as an excuse, despite watching the whistler only book Livi keeper Max Stryjek for shoving his hands into the face of Dons midfielder Vicente Besuijen which should have been a red card and penalty.

He said: “The goalkeeper, he pushed his hand into Vicente while the ball was in play.

“By the letter of the law it should be a red card and a penalty.

“I don’t like talking about referees. Journalists and pundits have all discussed how poor the officials have been this year. I don’t want to add to it but hopefully it will improve next year.”
