Points over performance for Turnbull

- ■ Gordon Parks

DDavid Turnbull insists tthe result will come bbefore style as Celtic aim to take another step towards the Premiership title against Ross County this afternoon.

The Hoops midfielder is also aiming to cement a first-team spot before the end of the campaign after his season was cur t a i led with a hamstring strain.

As all eyes turn to Dingwal l , Turnbul l admits he doesn’t care about performance – so long as the points come their way.

He said: “I don’t care how we get the job done – it is just a ll about getting the three points. It is all that matters. We want to play our style of footbal l but most importantly it is about getting points on the board and kicking on going into the last run of games.

“The boys are al l focused. We know what we need to do. Everyone is calm about it.

“It is very much about continuing to do what we have been doing al l season – sticking to our style of football.”

The Scotland star also believes the upset of losing to Rangers in last weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final has already been cast aside.

He said: “It has been fine. We have had a great week. We had the day off on Monday then came in on Tuesday and put the game behind us.

“We haven’t spoken about it. We are just looking forward to the game against County.

“We had a meeting on Tuesday – but we do that after every game as part of our preparations.

“The lads always block out the outside noise. We focus on the training pitch and in games and we always take each game as it comes.”

Turnbull always felt conf ident he would return from injury this season. He said: “The injury was tough to ta ke. But I always expected to be back for the runin – I never f e a r ed my season being over. “I had to deal with the disappointment then it was just about going through the rehab.

“Things happen and now it is just about pushing to get back into the starting XI and doing the best I can when I am in there.

“It has been good to slowly but surely get some game time and I just want some more of that now.

“I feel ready to start. I have been ready for a few weeks now but the team have been doing well so I had to bide my time. I just need to take my chance when it comes.”
