Voyage’ll chart a path to profit at Newmarket

-

Prosperous Voyage (3.40) is worth a couple of each-way quid in the Qipco 1000 Guineas.

The fillies’ classic at Newmarket takes centre stage in today’s action and the market is dominated by Irish charges.

Fourteen go to post for the big one with Aidan O’Brien’s Tenebrism and Tuesday along with Jessica Har r ington’s Discoveries all hugely popular with punters.

With a gun to the head, Discoveries would be the win pick, but just looking at the prices, it might also be worth having a small bet on Prosperous Voyage to get in the money.

Inspiral would have been favourite for this contest had she not been pulled out of the race by John Gosden last week and Ralph Beckett’s horse had run second to that one a couple of times.

Given that scenario, she is probably overpriced at around 20/1 and definitely worth a tickle if you are looking for something at decent odds.

It’s a competitive card at Flat racing’s HQ and another bet is DESERT ANGEL ( 4.15) in the 10-furlong handicap.

Richard Hannon’s yak has been warming up for this event with a couple of decent efforts and Ryan Moore takes the ride.

Incidentally, Hannon also has a compelling entry on the seven-race meeting at Salisbury in CABRAKAN (4.27)

The three-year-old was a good third on his first try over 1m 2f at Beverley and he looks dangerous with Pat Dobbs booked to do the steering.

The doors are slung open at Hamilton today for the first meeting of the campaign and the

Lanarkshire venue has been rewarded with some reasonable fields.

It’s competitive stuff and finding winners won’t be easy on Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker Foundation Family Raceday.

Michael Bell would not send too many raiders up to Hamilton so it is very interesting that he has chosen today for a first start of the campaign for SHIVRAJ (3.47).

This one was kept over sprint trips at two but steps up to a mile for this one and can improve for the increase in distance.

Shivraj’s juvenile form was nothing to write home about but market moves will be a sign.

Mark Johnston has his team in reasonable nick at the beginning of the Flat season and he’s got a couple going to post in the Buttonhook Handicap.

The yard like the race having taken it 12 months ago with The Trader and TRIBAL ART (2.05) is the pick of his two with Joe Fanning in the plate.

The four-year- old has to lug top-weight up that tough Hamilton hill but Fanning is a master at judging pace and he can keep enough in the tank to charge home.

Few trainers have built a better reputation for the placement of their horses than Tristan Davidson and he’s chosen to run IRIS DANCER (4.56) in the six-furlong finale.

The four-year- old was a close third to Pearl Of Qatar when last sighted over this trip on his return at Ayr and he can come on for the run.

Iris Dancer put together a run of three successive second-placed finishes at Hamilton last season to show a liking for the track and can go one better with Jason Hart a positive jockey booking.
