Warriors take Bull by horns in battle prep

-

Ryan Wilson insists Warriors are better off for their bruising trip to South Africa – even if isn’t in their win column.

Friday’s 29-17 loss to the Bulls sealed backto-back heavy defeats for Glasgow in the southern hemisphere.

Their last game of the regular URC season at Edinburgh on May 21 is now a must-win if Wilson and Co want to ensure qualification for the play-offs.

They also have a huge game on Saturday in Lyon with a European Challenge Cup semifinal spot on the line.

Warriors may not have winning momentum but skipper Wilson believes having the whole squad together in South Africa for a fortnight has made them a tighter unit.

He said: “I’ve said to the boys during the past few weeks that we’re a lot closer from being away together.

“With all the Covid stuff over the last few years, being able to come away for two weeks as a group has been really special.

“We’re a lot tighter as a group and that will bode well going into the end of the season. It’s a shame we come away from these two games with nothing but if there are any positives to take, it’s that we’re tighter for the experience.”

Besides league points being up for grabs, the 1872 Cup is on the line in three weeks’ time.

Having already beaten Edinburgh 30-17, the Warriors are well placed to retain the trophy, which is awarded to the side with the better aggregate score over the two matches.

They need only avoid losing by 14 points or more but Wilson says the target is always victory over their rivals.

He added: “The league situation puts a wee bit more pressure on us but that’s all right because we deal well with the pressure.

“Edinburgh was always going to be a must-win regardless of what happened in these last two games.”

Glasgow will arrive back home tomorrow evening before flying out to France on Friday.

Wilson said: “It is draining but you just have to find ways to deal with it.”
