Canaries sink after Villa loss

-

Norwich were relegated from the Premier League after Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa beat them 2- 0 at Villa Park.

The tame loss, coupled with Burnley’s dramatic comeback win at Watford, leaves the Canaries bottom of the table and 13 points from safety with four games left.

Their fans continued to sing as a relegation that has looked on the cards for some time was confirmed.

Ollie Watkins put Villa ahead in the first half, capitalising on a slip from Brandon Williams before lashing high into the net.

Williams’ error summed up Norwich’s season, as did their lack of potency in front of goal. They created limited openings, while Villa hit the woodwork in either half.

Danny Ings added a late goal in stoppage time to add to Norwich’s misery.

Gerrard’s men ended a five

OPENER match winless run, lifting them to 13th in the table.

Josh Brownhill bagged a late winner as Burnley came from behind to beat Watford 2-1 that pulled them five points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

And it left the Hornets on the brink of relegation.

Jack Cork’s diving header from Charlie Taylor’s cross cancel led out James Tarkowski’s early own goal, before Brownhill found the bottom corner from the edge of the box to spark jubilant scenes among the travelling fans and in the away dugout at Vicarage Road.

Wilfried Zaha netted a last-gasp winner as Crystal Palace came from behind to win 2-1 at Southampton, boosting their hopes of a top-half finish.

Oriol Romeu headed Saints into a lead but Eberechi Eze equalised on the hour. And Zaha came off the bench to net the decider at the death.

Goals by Alexis Mac Allister, Leandro Trossard and Yves Bissouma helped

Brighton beat Wolves 3- 0.
