Prince plans less formal approach in bid to ditch monarchy’s stuffy image

Prince William plans to rip up the royal rule book in a bid to shake off the monarchy’s stuffy image abroad and wants to be known as Wills.

A royal source has revealed that following the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s disastrous Caribbean tour, they are to take a less formal approach to “move on with the times”.

William, second-in-line to the British throne, is focused on building and maintaining a streamlined modern monarchy to ensure its survival.

Curtsies and bowing are to be axed and taking a leaf out of Harry and Meghan’s book, the Duke and Duchess will be addressed as Wills and Kate.

The source said: “When the team arrived back in London the couple had a debrief with aides.

“In this debrief, they went over everything and pinpoi nted specific things that went wrong and how to

NORMAL improve moving forward. The general consensus was the tour seemed out of date, out of touch, too formal and stuffy.

“So now it’s more “Wills and Kate” instead of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – ‘ Just call me Wills’ type of thing.

“They want to try to avoid the bows and curtsies in public and break away with a lot of the tradition. They saw how well the

Invictus Games went for Harry and Meghan, and how they were perceived as “down-to- earth”, “normal”, and in touch with the people that they intend to take a leaf out of their book.”

In March, William and Kate were heavily criticised for their “tone-deaf ” Caribbean tour.

Official photos of the Duke and Duchess greeting Jamaican admi rers in Trenchtown through a metal “cage” fence were branded “awkward”.

The pair were also criticised for riding standing up in an open-top Land Rover during the inaugural Commissioning Parade on March 24.

The source added:“If they could wave a magic wand and go back in time, they would change almost everything about the Caribbean tour.”
