I’D ANSWER CAL FROM ABROAD

But Ramsay in no rush to leave

- Scott McDermott

The bright lights of the Premier League are an obvious attraction to most young players in Scotland.

With the glitz, glamour and financial rewards on offer down south, it’s the Promised Land for talented kids.

And one of our best, Calvin Ramsay, would love to sample it one day. But thanks to some of his compatriots, the Aberdeen full-back knows heading over the border isn’t his only option if he leaves Pittodrie.

The 18-year- old was in the frame for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award and won the SFWA gong.

The Dons have already had to fend off offers from English clubs. But after seeing the likes of Aaron Hickey and Jack Hendry go abroad to further their careers, he’s not ruling out a switch to Europe.

Hickey is ripping up Serie A with Bologna, amidst interest from the likes of AC Milan, Napoli and Arsenal, while Hendry joined Belgian cracks

Club Brugge after excelling in the same league at Oostende.

So if a chance arose to go abroad, it’s something Ramsay he would consider.

The Scotland Under- 21 right- back said: “It would definitely interest me.

“Italy is one of the top five leagues in the world. Hickey has gone there, played well and scored goals.

“He’s done really well as has Jack in Belgium.

“It’s something I’d like to try one day but I have to be performing for Aberdeen first.

“I want to play as many games as I can here but I can’t help the specu l a t ion around me.

“If I’m doing wel l, people will be looking at me.” Ramsay is an Aberdeen fan so he’s in no hurry to leave.

He has impressed in his first full campaign – despite the club going through a turbulent spell littered with poor results.

And he is keen to play his part in the start of a new era under Jim Goodwin this summer. He said: “I’m a local lad who’s supported Aberdeen my whole life and came through the academy. It’s my dream to play for the club. I want the best for Aberdeen so I put pressure on mys e l f to per form to help the club. “I know what it means to the fans – because I am one.

“But it hasn’t been great this season – we’re better than that and we will show that next season.”
