Refund relief for David

- ■ Gordon Parks

David Martindale admits he was ready to refund action-starved fans after fearing his side were about to serve up a no-goal bore.

But after two strikes near the end of Livingston’s 1-1 draw with St Johnstone, the Lions boss insists the goal rush was better late than never.

He said: “The game had 0- 0 written all over it all day long and if that had happened I’d have been worried that the fans would be asking for their money back.

“We didn’t defend the back post and conceded and I’m looking to find some positives as there wasn’t much in the game.

“I really need to credit St Johnstone who pressed us well and limited our attempts to try and play.

“We looked a wee bit lethargic in the first half but in the second half we started better and Odin Bailey needs to score with his chance.

“Zander Clark was off his line and Odin just had to lift it but he hit it first time.

“When we lost the goal we shoved two boys up top and earned our just reward.

“We then work a quick free- kick – Jason Holt’s ba l l ’ s tremendous , Scott Pit tman runs fantastical ly and Jack Fitzwater does really well.

“Clark pulls off a really good save but Fitzwater follows the ball in.

“It was a decent goal from our point of view and I’m happy to get a point out of the game.

“Fair play to the lads, the game could have petered out at 1- 0 but they fought really hard and got back into the match.

“The players created chances to try and win.

“The fans managed to see two goals so they can’t ask for their money back now.

“As I said, on the balance of play, overall there wasn’t a lot in the game.”
