27 YEARS OF CRIME DRAMA

Taggart holds the record for being the longestrun­ning crime drama on British television.

Created for STV by Glenn Chandler, it was first broadcast in 1983 and ran for 27 years.

Blythe was the longest-serving member of the cast when the final episode was broadcast on STV in November 2010 and ITV in February 2011.

DEATH COMES SOFTLY,

Series 6, 1990 WPC Jackie Reid made her first appearance in uniform on the series in December 1990, helping her colleagues investigat­e the murders of two pensioners. She is seconded to CID in her next episode.

PRAYER FOR THE DEAD,

Last episode in which DC Reid appears with

DCI Jim Taggart. Mark McManus died, aged 59, after taking ill while filming the series.

BLACK ORCHARD, Series 11, 1995

Colin McCredie joins the Taggart cast as

DC Stuart Fraser. Reid becomes good friends with Fraser and frequently fights for him throughout the show.

DEVIL’S ADVOCATE, Series 12, 1996

DC Reid uncovers a blackmail scheme which may have led to murder, featuring guest appearance­s from Cal Macaninch and Billy Boyd.

DEAD RECKONING, Series 14, 1998

Reid’s colleague Michael Jardine, played by James MacPherson, saves her life by jumping into a waterfall as she is about to drown.

A FEW BAD MEN,

First appearance of DI Robbie Ross, played by John Michie, who becomes a regular star of the show. Reid comments that he is not bad-looking and the two characters embark on a “will they, won’t they” relationsh­ip.

FALLING IN LOVE, New Year’s Special, 2001 Reid marries DCS Brian Holmes from the Complaints and Discipline department but, as she says her vows, she looks at DI Ross and it is clear she is having her doubts. The marriage ends in divorce two years later.

Series 14, 1998

DEATH TRAP, Series 17, 2002

Last appearance of DCI Michael Jardine, who is murdered by being pushed into the River Clyde. At his funeral Reid describes him as her best friend and admits she loved him – but it is not clear whether romantical­ly or as friends.

FIRE, BURN,

Reid initially gets off to a rocky start when DCI Matthew Burke, played by Alex Norton, takes over as Jardine’s replacemen­t. Respect is finally won over when they have to dismantle a bomb together. ENDS OF JUSTICE,

Final episode of the show sees newly promoted DI Reid head up an investigat­ion into the murder of a busker who is stabbed in the city centre.
