Danny plays Part to seal Jags debut to remember

Danny Mullen grabbed a debut goal to help Partick Thistle beat Montrose 4-2 and win Group B.

The Jags were two goals to the good at the break through Jack McMillan and Kevin Holt but Montrose halved the deficit through Craig Brown.

Thistle restored their two- goal cushion through Steven Lawless before Tony Weston set up debutant Mullen to tap in the fourth. Craig Johnston pulled another one back.

Arbroath were confirmed as Group E winners after a 3- 0 victory at home to Airdrie. Michael McKenna fired Dick Campbell’s men ahead before Kieran Shanks doubled their lead.

Jason Thomson’s header wrapped it up before the hour mark.

Inverness advanced to the last 16 on penalties as they bagged the extras following a 1-1 draw with Cove to claim top spot in Group G.

Caley Thistle went ahead after 14 minutes as Nathan Shaw crossed for Roddy MacGregor to head past Cove keeper Kyle Gourlay. The visitors levelled four minutes later when Fraser Fyvie’s corner dropped at the feet of Mitch Megginson. Fyvie then saw his spot kick saved by Mark Ridgers in the shootout.

Alloa also claimed the bonus point after they beat Dunfermlin­e 5- 4 on penalties following their 1-1 draw.

Chris Hamilton’s first-half header gave Pars the lead but Conor Sammon tied it up on the hour to force a shootout, where Joe Chalmers missed.

Hamilton joined the spot kick kings as they followed up yet another 1-1 draw with a 5-4 victory from 12 yards over Queen’s Park. Andy Winter saw his opener cancelled out by Jake Davidson’s equaliser – who then missed the decisive kick.

Morton came from a goal down to beat Bonnyrigg Rose 3-1.

Kevin Smith opened the scoring but Jaze Kabia levelled before Carlo Pignatiell­o tapped in and Grant Gillespie added a third from the spot when Michael Garrity was fouled by Scott Gray, who earned a straight red.

Queen of the South must await the result of Raith Rovers v Aberdeen to see if they progress, having finished second in Group F after goals from Kieran McKechnie and Ruari Paton gave them a 2- 0 win at Elgin.

Craig McGuffie’s free kick helped Falkirk beat Clyde 1-0 to win Group D while Dale Carrick fired a hat-trick as Stirling Albion saw off Peterhead 3- 0.
