Yilmaz will be last piece of my jigsaw

-

Barisic. Yilmaz will be van Bronckhorst’s sixth summer signing after John Souttar, Antonio Colak, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo and Malik Tillman.

And ahead of the league opener against Livingston on Saturday, the Dutchman feels the squad will be set once Yilmaz is in the door.

Asked if a deal was close, Van Bronckhorst said: “It’s been wellstated in the press about him. I won’t lie, we hope to add a new player in the coming days.

“Then we wil l be finished in this window if no- one else goes. When it’s confirmed he’s a Rangers player, we’ll announce it.

“Hopefully we can develop him in the same way as other young players we’ve got in.

“Calvin Bassey is a good example, Nathan Patterson as well. The new player will also be in that age range.”

Gers lost 2-1 to Spurs in a friendly at Ibrox yesterday

as English skipper Ha r r y Kane bagged a brace.

Croatian striker Colak netted his first goal for Rangers, while veteran keeper A llan McGregor impressed with a string of top saves.

Jon McLaughlin was given 90 minutes between the sticks against West Ham in a 3-1 midweek win. But van Bronckhorst says he’s yet to decide who his No.1 will be when the season kicks off for real.

He said: “No, not yet. We just give the keepers game time so they are physically ready.”

The coach also hopes Colak wi l l get a confidence boost after getting off the mark.

He said: “It’s always important for strikers to score. Colak has probably had the most minutes of anyone in pre-season so he is fit and ready.

“We’re working hard to get the others fit as well.”

Premier League Spurs provided a stiff test for Rangers ahead of their Champions League tie with Union Saint-Gilloise a week on Tuesday.

And in the likes of Kane and Heung Min Son, Gers faced genuine worldclass opposition.

The Ibrox gaffer said: “The result wasn’t that important.

“We were up against an excellent opponent but you want to play teams at that level. That’s how we’ll get stronger.

“Kane and Son are top level in the world. When they went off the Rangers fans applauded them because we all recognise their talent.

“We started well but in the second half we made some mistakes.

“Against these teams, they’ll punish you.

“It was good because we need to be on top of our game against Livingston next week.”
